Biodiversity Net Gain
Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) has become a mandatory requirement from most development projects in England from January 2024. The Environment Act 2021 outlines the requirement for developments to achieve at least a 10% biodiversity net gain which must be achieved through habitat creation or enhancement, or through the purchase of biodiversity credits.
The development projects to which this will apply are:
Those due to occur above the mean low water level
Those which are greater than 25m2 in size
